Edouard Vuillard, Usine de fabrication d'armement à Lyon : La Forge (A Munitions Factory in Lyons: The Forge), 1917, tempera on canvas, 75 x 154 cm, Musée d'art moderne, Troyes. |
61 62 6362 - Edouard Vuillard Vuillard depicted the arms effort in his two paintings, The Towers and The Forge. Invited by the owners, the Lazare Levy family, he went to Lyons and visited their factories, colossal metal and glass buildings housing equally colossal machines. His aim was not to depict their functioning, but to give a general idea of all the machinery, the wires, the silhouettes and the din of the mechanical works. |
